  • After complaints from various people who have broken the language rules recently, we've gone ahead and changed the page displayed when rules are broken from the normal motd to a special 'you've broken the rules' version of the motd. Please take a look at it, and let us know if you notice anything wrong. It's basically a stripped down version of the normal motd, with an extra message at the top.
  • There are still plans to set the filter up so it persists through different maps, and forgives an offense once in a while, but as of now it's still the "3 times in one map" situation.
July 11th, 2010
  • Updated the TF2 servers and SourceMod accordingly for the Engineer update
  • Updated the L4D2 servers and SourceMod accordingly for the new mutation
  • Setup the elusive TF2 Server #1 as an achievement server for when it's needed now that the Engi update dropped
  • Made big tweaks to the IRC Relay to prepare it for public consumption and easier upgrading
  • Wrote a plugin for the TF2 servers which lets users rename themselves the same way they used to with "setinfo name namehere", except with a sourcemod command! Just say "/name Your Name" or "!name Your Name!" in chat, "sm_name Your Name" in console to use it! Huzzah! :)
  • UPDATE: A relay channel is now available to the public! It's "#tld-relay" on SynIRC. It's currently set as +m (moderated) so that only people with +v (voice) or higher can talk in the channel, to avoid people accidentally relaying chat back to the server just by chitchatting in it. Once I figure out how and who I want to be able to relay chat back to the server, the +m may be rescinded, requiring a specific command to relay chat, or certain users will get voice so they can speak despite the +m

For those wishing to connect to our L4D2 servers:
As Valve seems incapable of keeping dedicated servers working properly or easily in L4D/L4D2, they've yet again broken dedicated servers using sv_search_key, which means currently setting our search key will not work, and will instead bump you down to a locally hosted server. However, there is a workaround.

Simply open the console in L4D2 (enable it from options if you've not already; it's accessible via the tilde key), and enter one of following command:
Code: Select all
mm_dedicated_force_servers "96.44.130.2:27033,96.44.130.2:27035"

Then, when you create a lobby (using 'Use Best Available Dedicated' of course), it'll put you into one of the two TLD L4D2 servers. We'll make sure to keep you informed if the sv_search_key method once again becomes viable, as it seems to flipflop between working and not randomly each L4D2 update that is released.

Note: You can also make a bind/alias for the above command to make it easier on yourself, or even put it in your autoexec.cfg file so it always takes effect. For help on the autoexec.cfg file, see the entry on it, located in this post, right at the top. If any of you feel this is unclear, or need something explained, feel free to ask.

NOTE: It IS OKAY for any of you, Lions' and regulars alike, to use the L4D2 servers -- that's what they are there for. And, while it is okay to invite your friends in to a lobby you make for use with the TLD servers, it is not okay to pass the key around to random people. These are for the use of The Lions' community, not random fools

The "What Have You Done For Me Lately?" Post

Postby Atreus on Wed Jun 17, 2009 7:58 pm

I realize that sometimes things go on behind the scenes with both the clan and the server. I am able to tell some people what's going on, but others are left in the dark as to what's going on. I'm also curious as to what kind of feedback you guys have for various actions that are taken. This thread is for a few things:
  • I will provide updates as to what has been done recently, whether on the server or on the board.
---They will be added in a new post, and then edited in to the opening
  • You guys can provide feedback on changes that have been made recently or in the past
    ---Have complaints? Voice them.

Obviously it'll start out small for the list of changes, but I'll make sure to keep it updated. If you guys think this thread is a stupid idea (seriously) feel free to say so, and I'll quit it :v

  • Due to the popularity and constant fullness, we now have a second Altitude server! They are identical in settings in every way, except the ports are different and the name has changed. Use "/connect games.dongues.net:27278" or find it in the server browser - the name is ">:3 The Lions' Den #15: Owls say Hoot and Planes Go Toot". See you in game!
June 29th, 2010
  • After many Lions bought it due to the Steam sale, we've now got an Altitude server! :D "/connect games.dongues.net:27276" :D or find it in the server browser - the name is ">:3 Lions' Den #14: Dongs, Manes, and Exploding Planes!"
  • At long last: plr_nightfall updated to b1! Huzzah hurray and toot!
June 25th, 2010
  • The original incarnation of LionBot has been REBORN! as LionsRelay! The old IRCRelay plugin we used long ago is defunct, and we've been using a really wonky workaround with HLSW and the mIRC integration since. However, that's no longer needed because now we have SourceIRC! Well, a mod if it anyway. It's awesome, but there are a few features that aren't in it or settings that just aren't right for us by default. However, with those mods, everything's working great. As of now, until I make sure there are no bugs, it's only relaying to #tld-admins, but the commands it has work fine in #tld (say LionsRelay.help or !help to find out!). Eventually, I'll make something like #tld-relay and you normal fellows will be able to see it too!

  • Finally added an automated solution for specific examples of disallowed language on the server. In the past, admins have always had to keep close watch to reprimand anyone who used any of the small subset of words that we don't allow on TLD. This will nicely lighten our load :) For the first two strikes, it forces the rules on them. On the third strike, it tempbans the offender for 60 minutes. Now, please read the following before going "OH GOD ATREUS WE DON'T WANT A CHAT FILTER BLAH BLAH DOWNHILL": the words are not being filtered, or removed. No additional phrases that were considered okay before are against the rules now. In fact, it's more lenient as an automatic system than we were when doing it manually. The only thing this does is automate the process of what we've been doing for a very long time. If you have issues with it, or experience a bug of some sort, here is the place to make yourself heard.
  • [PLANNED] Add a delay between when the person activates the filter and it shows them the rules, so they have time to better know what's going on.
  • Updated and tweaked the teamscramble/autobalance plugin. Hopefully the bugs are now fixed
June 1st, 2010
  • Tweaked the teamscramble/autoscramble plugin a bit based on user feedback
  • Updated the TLD map pack with everything added since the last one
  • Made some significant tweaks to the bbcode formatting used for these updates. Made up a nice regular expression pattern and applied it to all the past updates. I think everything went through ok.
  • Pruned all forum accounts with 0 posts which have not been logged into for at least one year
May 31st, 2010
  • Updated cp_silvertrail_b5 to cp_silvertrail_rc2
  • Updated cp_furnace_b4 to cp_furnace_rc1
  • Changes the in-game advertisements about the !admins trigger to direct people to the rules/motd instead of saying it directly in the text due to abuse by idiots
  • Updated the teamscramble/autobalance plugin to the latest version. It may have a few kinks, so please report any issues you have with it so I can fix them
May 30th, 2010
  • Updated HLStatsX to 1.6.8 and made some additional tweaks/optimizations
  • Updated the SuperLogs plugin to the latest version (for use with HLStatsX)
  • Changed the "empty server" map to ctf_turbine on what for now will be a temporary basis, pending how it goes. If it does well, it will be permanent.
  • (Technically not today but I don't want to make two entries) Updated TF2 / L4D servers as the updates came a day or so ago
May 24th, 2010
  • Added a plugin to the server which does a textual reply to anyone who uses the admins trigger (!admins) in server, acknowledging the command worked.
  • Added two new ads to the text advertisement rotation on the server, mentioning the admins trigger (!admins) in order to educate the masses about it. The first specifies to use it if requesting an event for filling up the server, and the second specifies to use it if someone's breaking the rules or something is wrong.
  • Added a note to the Message of the Day which mentions the admins trigger (!admins) and a note about not abusing it, and that doing so may cause a kick or ban of some sort.
BRIEF Summary of July, 2009 through May 23rd, 2010(wow has it really been that long since I updated this?!)
  • Many maps added, some removed, Updating the List of Maps Currently On The Server along the way.
  • Many updates to the TF2/L4D2 servers as well as updating SourceMod/MetaMod/etc as time went on
  • Got a BF:BC2 Server thanks to EvilMaverick
  • Updated and/or added many plugins for the tF2 server, many of which were modified or enhanced by my or a friend's coding.
  • Some of the changes in the past few days, specifically, include...
    1. One such plugin, updated just last night, makes GhostChat report logged chat back to the IRC Relay, HLSW, and HLSTATSX destinations
    2. Updated and greatly optimized HLSTATSX
    3. Many, many other tweaks, fixes, and laborious, tedious tasks along the way! Too many to list!

    • Removed cp_blackmesa_final
    • Removed arena_kellownee until such time that it is updated
    • Updated cp_furnace_b2 to cp_furnace_b3

    • Downgraded sourcemod to the latest stable snapshot instead of the cutting edge builds to fix the server crashes
    • Finally got a Front Site setup and partially integrated it into the forums (header-wise). I plan to fully integrate the forums soon by changing the forums' background colour and appropriately changing the links affected.
    • Completely reworked the Advertisements plugin to 'pop out' more and be more eyecatching without being annoying
    June 25th, 2009
    • Updated cp_blackmesa to cp_blackmesa_final
    • Updated pl_borax_b2 to pl_borax_b3
    • Updated pl_cashworks_rc to pl_cashworks_rc2
    • Updated ctf_avantiville_b27 to ctf_avantiville_b29

    • Added ctf_aurora_rc
    • Added cp_studio_rc4 and arena_desolation to the server to test, but not yet to nominations
    • Attempted to fix the recent server crashes with some various tweaks and updating sourcemod. Hopefully it fixed them.
    • Updated a variety of plugins to their latest versions
    March 4th, 2009 - June 17th
    • So, firstly, here's the current nominatables (Removed, see next post). Too many new maps/updated maps/changes to list them specifically
    • Completely revamped the AFK Manager plugin. Current threshholds:
      • After 90 seconds of being AFK, you will be moved to Spectator
      • After 4 minutes cumulative (2.5m/150s more than the previous limit), if the server is full up at 24 players, the person will be kicked
    • Completely revamped the Team Scramble plugin. Currently, you can do "!scramble" in chat (20% players required) to vote for a Scramble Vote. Then, if 60% of players vote yes, the teams are scrambled using a PPM (points per minute) system.
    • Wrote/added an 'emote' plugin, allowing people to use "/me" to emote similar to IRC and some messaging clients
    • Added SourceBans to the server, up at http://lions.dongues.net/bans/, allowing unified Admins and Bans across the Lions servers. If you have a reserve slot, you already have an account and just need to talk to me to get your password. If not, you can make an account.
    • Rewrote the SuppressMessages plugin, as it no longer worked, isn't supported, and I felt like fixing it myself.
    • Did a bunch of map testing tonight and added the following new maps: arena_freight, cp_no_mercy_b1, pl_borax_b2, pl_rivercrossing_b3
    • Maps still to test (relating to the above bullet point): cp_redfort_b3, pl_waste
    • A bunch of other crap I can't remember, including TF2/L4D updates, SourceMod upgrades, and some other new/updated plugins over time.
    February 26th, 2007 - March 3rd
    • Updated various SourceMod plugins
    • Updated SourceMod build to fix crashing on crits
    • Added a plugin to fix crashes on payload maps
    • Heavily edited the plugin that regenerates ammo/health when you cap the flag to work with the scout update
    • Changed around the ads a bit in the Ads plugin
    • Dealt with really annoying server lag for a day
    • Added various new maps to the server: pl_zig_b8
    • Updated various maps on the server: pl_mill_b5
    January 2nd, 2009 - February 26th
    • Added a some new plugins to the server (and updated others):
      • A team scrambler that works not unlike RTV. It requires 40%, similar to RTV. To use it, say "!scramble"
      • SupressMessages -- allows admins to move to spectator silently to more easily catch hackers
      • Updated SprayTrace
      • Added, and removed, a NameChanger plugin, as the latest update broke it
      • Manually updated the code in the plugin that regenerates your health/ammo when you cap the flag, as the latest update broke it
      • Added the !admins trigger, for when LionBot is on
      • Updated the rotating advertisements plugin
    • Updated the MOTD with the new admins (eg. Ozmodiar/VMDX)
    • Many TF2/L4D updates as things came out, as well as fixes for things that broke
    • Many SourceMod updates as revisions came out. Currently on the latest revision of SourceMod for Both TF2 servers, and all 4 L4D servers as of earlier tonight
    • Updated MetaMod to latest revision with bugfixes
    • Added the community workaround for the Timeout Bug by Nephyrin
    • Temporarily disabled LionBot/Sockets as that is what seemed to have caused the crashes. No crashes since.
    • Added various new maps to the server: ctf_death_valley, koth_lighthouse_rc2, arena_backwash_b3, pl-repository_rc2, tc_meridian_b4, pl_mill_b4, pl_swift,
    • Updated various maps on the server: cp_junction_final, cp_egypt_final, arena_watchtower, cp_warpath_v3, arena_lighthouse_rc1, pl_cashworks_b2, pl_frontier_b2, pl_cranetop_b8, arena_harvest_v2, ctf_stowaway_b7, arena_kellownee_b6, pl_hoodoo, pl_haywood_beta6, others I can't remember
    January 1st, 2009 - Part 2
    • Removed Arena_Badlands from the nominatables, as it usually empties the server and few enjoy it
    • Added 3 new maps to #2 for testing -- arena_offblast_b1, arena_lighthouse_b2, and arena_harvest. Please make a point of trying them and provide feedback.
    January 1st, 2009
    • As a new version of SourceMod was just released, I've entirely updated SourceMod on all servers to the latest build, including recompiling all plugins and checking for functionality. We didn't need any features from it -yet-, but I guarantee plugin makers will start basing their code on it and this way it's an easy transition for any features we need
    • I was going to add Crossroads Mall to L4D, but it's apparently waiting for the L4D SDK to come out :/
    • I haven't added those other few maps yet, as unfortunately Spart and I seem to have missed each other and he hasn't called me.
    December 24th, 2008
    • Fixed Arena on TF2! Hurray!
    December 20th, 2008
    • Added 4th L4D server -- Versus
    • Added SourceMod to all L4D servers. All people who were admins on TF2 have admin access.
    • Added a plugin to permanently set versus on the proper L4D servers
    • Added a plugin to automatically move to the next campaign once you've finished one on an L4D server so it doesn't stay on the same one once finished
    • A few other things
    • Updated pl_cashworks to alpha 5 on the TF2 servers
    Time around December 18th, 2008
    • Added a few more new maps, the focus of which were pl_frontier_b1 & pl_great_heights_b2
    • Added ClanTag protection. This means that if you haven't yet gotten your reserve slot, you will be kicked for wearing the tag. You should get your reserve slot now in the Clan Discussion section to avoid such.
    • Updated various maps, including ctf_aerospace_b4 & pl_cashworks_a4
    • Some other random changes I can't recall
    November 15th - November 27th, 2008
    • Added some new maps (pl_cashworks and cp_observatory)
    • Updated some maps (ctf_avantiville_b15 and pl_cranetop_b6)
    • Updated SprayTracer plugin to fix some various bugs
    • Added a plugin that makes it so if an administrator goes spectator to watch a potential hacker or whatever, it doesn't announce it. That makes it far easier to do.
    November 14th, 2008
    • pl_hoodoo updated from Beta 2 to Beta 4
    • cp_gydan updated from Alpha 2 to Beta 1
    • cp_overflow updated from Final V1 to Final V2
    • pl_haywood updated from Beta 4 to Beta 5
    • cp_warehouse updated from Beta 1 to Beta 8
    • pl_cranetop (!) updated from Beta 3 to Beta 4 (once the author recompiles it to fix a bug)
    • ctf_avantiville (YES, ITS FINALLY OU!T) updated from Beta 4.2 to Beta 11 (this will be uploaded sometime tomorrow)
    October 22nd, 2008
    • Added an AFK Manager to the server, finally. It works on both where you're looking and where you're standing, so it won't have a false positive of if you're afk or not. If the server isn't almost full (>23) we won't be kicking any AFKs. The threshholds seem fair, and we can always tweak them if there's an issue.
    September 14th, 2008
    August 27th - September 12th, 2008
    • Added some new maps (incl. cp_amsterdam, arena_watchtower, & arena_2fort), updated some plugins (incl IRC Relay, see below) and the sourcemod build
    • Even MORE MOTD tweaks because people had some weird ass issues. It looks kind of odd on 800x600, but it works. It looks real nice on everything else.
    • Updated mapchooser again with some nice new tweaks
    • Made some AWESOME IRC Relay changes. This wasn't just an update, this was an entire night of writing an entirely new function (just ask CloudStrife, he was there, haha -- really fun though!). Admins can now use ANY sourcemod command they can use in-game out of game, too! If you're interested in the details, read this post and this post
    • A lot of general maintenance, bugfixes, etc, etc
    • A bunch of other stuff I don't remember
    August 25th & 26th, 2008
    • Rearranged the files on the server so that Josh can make a new Skin
    • Made tweaks to the MOTD so it works in IE6
    • Worked with pred* on the mapchooser plugin and got Arena_ maps working on the server. Thanks to ardesco for helping me test
    • Enabled full players on Arena_ maps using a SourceMod extension
    • Planned: Change the empty-server-mapcycle to ctf_2fort & all arena_ maps
    August 21st, 2008
    • Completely reworked the MOTD with CyberMonk's help
    • Rewrote most of the GhostTalk plugin. It now works much better and I fixed all but one outstanding bug
    • General server, forum, and TF2 maintenance
    July 31st - August 20th, 2008
    • Added a lot of new maps, such as cp_mountcoaster, cp_aqua, ctf_cruise, and ctf_redgiant
    • Updated the servers for the Heavy Updates
    • Updated all the sourcemod builds again, finally
    • Updated a lot of the plugins. Especially SprayTrace. It's now possible to punish/warn/burn players for bad sprays, and REMOVE bad sprays
    • Separated Servers 1&2 structure-wise. It's now possible to use TF2 Server #1 as a testbed for all changes to Server #2, so that less bugs will occur with new plugins
    • Tried to enable the Arena maps, but mapchooser won't work properly. Disabled them until the plugin maker updates it to work properly.
    • Updated the MOTD to be more specific about how to gain membership. Before it just seemed like "hay, play here a lot to get membership, and if you don't, we hate you"
    • Finalized the No-HLSS rule
    • Updated the forum header to represent us better. Hope you guys like it!
    July 30th, 2008
    • I added the HLSS-disabler to the server. Within half a second of someone trying to use HLSS, they will be server-side muted. The MOTD reflects this. If they try to use HLSS, they will be muted and will be told to read the MOTD and ask an admin to be unmuted.
    • I've also requested a feature from the plugin author that will allow for dynamic muting and a three-strikes rule. That means that the player would ONLY be muted DURING HLSS, and not during normal voice -- they would be muted for their first two offenses, and then kicked on the third. That would get rid of repeat offenders and others would be allowed to stay in peace without admin intervention.
    July 28th, 2008
    • Added a plugin to interface with IRC. It allows you to both receive and send (with a command) messages to and from the TF2 server. Commands allowed to all are as follow:
      • players - Gives a list of all of the players on the server, and the teams that they are on
      • playerinfo <playername | partial name> - This will give some information about the player specified
      • gameinfo - Lists some information about the server
      • steam <SteamCommunity URL> - Converts a steam community URL into a Steam ID
      • profile <SteamID> - Converts a steamid into a community URL
    • The relay FROM the TF2 server to IRC is done in a separate channel (#tld-admins) and is invite-only for now .. I haven't decided if it should be open to non-admins yet. The general commands, though, are open to the public in #tld
    • This will allow for administration while admins are not in the server, which means that you can't complain anymore about having to go into the server to do the administration and the admins 'not being there'
    July 16th, 2008
    • Revamped HL2DM server to use SourceMod. Let me know you notice any bugs
    • Did a major upgrade to the SourceMod on the TF2 server that should fix the recent crashes
    • Set up the TFC server with NeoTF
    • Reconfigured the FTP daemon to support multiple users
    • other miscellaneous server maintenance
    June 26th - July 10th, 2008
    • Finished fixing up the HL2DM server for the most part. All that's left is map maintenance and SourceMod upgrades
    • Added a DOD:S Server
    • Moved to a more stable server monitor to keep servers more stable
    • Numerous TF2/Sourcemod/GarrysMod/etc upgrades
    • Forum Tweak! Finally! [spoiler]Spoiler Text![/spoiler]
    • Other stuff.
    May 16th - June 25th, 2008
    • Dropped Server #1
    • Did a Major overhaul of the new server
    • Created a new Server #1 for funmaps/achievements
    • Added a GMod server
    • Added a partially-finished HL2DM server
    • Updated TF2 builds as they came out, including the Pyro update
    • Updated SourceMod to be compatable with the Pyro Update, including various plugins
    • Continued working with PredCrab on the nominations/mapchooser plugin, which has come a very long way
    • Added in a plugin that sets health/weapon ammo to max when a player caps the intelligence
    • Added some new maps, including the full version of pl_Cave_b2, and pl_dbheights
    • Various other maintenance and upgrades
    May 15th, 2008
    • Synched Server 1 and Server 2
    • Altered the server configurations with a new mapchooser/rockthevote that allows nominations to work with end-of-map votes--It's been a LONG time coming for this, and I'm very happy about it. No more custom votes for me! It's still in beta, but I think it's bug free so far
    • Added a plugin that will change the map back to 2fort after 30 minutes of inactivity with 1 or less people on the server
    • Removed the timelimit for the reason above, since it's easy to RockTheVote and we play by rounds
--This will reduce confusion for people that think "oh shit there's 90 minutes left on this map", which happens quite a bit
    • Updated the ads plugin to a newer, better version. Also altered the Ads to reflect the above. The ads now consist of:
      • "You can say 'motd' to see our rules"
      • "Visit our forums at http://lions.dongues.net!
      • "Visit our IRC channel at irc.synIRC.net #tld"
      • "Make sure to 'nominate' a map for the NextMap vote"
      • "We have 3 rounds per map and there is no timelimit"
      • "Tired of the current map? Feel free to RockTheVote!"
      • "A NextMap vote will occur when there is 1 round left on a map"
      • And a hint-panel that comes up after every 4 messages in the upper left, in orange, that says "Next Map: {SM_NEXTMAP}"
    May 13th, 2008 (cont)
    • Added cp_junction_v2 to nominatables
    • Updated casbah to v2
    • Added cp_egypt_v2 to the server for testing
    • Made warpath2 nominatable in lieu of warpath, but left warpath on the server
    May 13th, 2008
    • Put pl_cave and pl_dynamite2 in the nominations in favour of es_cave and es_dynamite2, as it's better in every way
    • Reverted mining to the es_ version because the pl_ version is broken
    • Planning on adding a GOOD cz2 remake
    • Added cp_warpath2 to the server. It's by the original author and should be better
    • Added some new maps to try: cp_junction_v2, cp_stag, and cp_broma
    May 11th, 2008
    • Cleaned out the maps folder some
    • Added Caste4 to the nominatables, and removed the betas
    • Added the pl_ versions of Cave and Mining, as the es_ versions (pre-goldrush) are outdated. We'll try them soon
    • Backlog of stuff not mentioned earlier
      • Added ctf_royal to the nominatables
      • Forest updated to RC2
      • Added a cz2 remake to try out, though it seems to be not so good
      • Updated cp_corporation to b2
    May 9th, 2008
    • Updated TF2 Servers to latest build
    May 7th, 2008
    • Updated TF2 Servers to latest build
    May 5th, 2008
    • Updated TF2 Servers to latest build (3467)

    • Updated TF2 Servers to latest build
    April 30th, 2008
    • Updated TF2 servers to latest build
    April 29th, 2008
    • Updated TF2 Servers to latest build
    • Updated Windows TF2 Server to fix Crash Bug
    • Updated SourceMod to latest build
    April 2nd, 2008
    • Applied a user-contributed patch to fix the server crashing until valve releases one
    • Removed the user-contributed patch, and Applied Valve's patch for the server crashing
    April 1st, 2008
    • Updated TF2 Server to the latest build
    March 26th, 2008
    • Updated SourceMod to the latest stable build (1.0 finally)
It was a bit more work to do this upgrade than the usual ones, but I think everything is bug-free and working. Make sure to let me know if something isn't working right, for some reason.
    March 20th, 2008
    • Updated TF2 to the latest build
    March 7th, 2008 (cont)
    • Nabbed a copy of ctf_crossover_b1 and added it to the nominatable list because it was received so well. (we are the only public server with it! How about that!)
    • Made a tweak to the "HP Left" plugin so it's less intrusive
    • Added cp_vertigo_beta3 to the server. Not nominatable yet, but it was received very well the first playthrough (gravelpit style)
    • Added cp_dust2 to the server. Considering taking it off, because no one really liked it
    March 7th, 2008
    • cp_Forest_b3 added to nominatable maps, as it went over well on both TLD and the HeX server
    • Added an "HP Left" plugin that tells who killed you, how much HP they had, and how far away they were (this has been requested before. If it gets bad reception I can take it off)
    • Added votekick and voteban (25 minutes) to the server, allowed to the public.
As of now, admins are immune. Depending on the feedback, I may either make all Lions immune, or make no one immune. Please give feedback on this once you've tested it. Thresholds for votekick: >2 Players, 60%. Thresholds for voteban>2 Players, 80%.
    • Added ctf_moonwalk_b1 to the maps to test out later tonight. It seemed like it might be a fun map
    March 6th, 2008
    • Updated TF2 to newest build
    • Removed the sv_tags plugin and Disabled Party mode
This way, we appear on the internet tab. Within 30 seconds of being up, we were full. Just before the restart, we had 14 players.
    • Added and configured reserved slots to the server
    March 3rd, 2008
    • Fixed the sv_tags plugin to not cause ridiculous amounts of extra CPU usage
    • Fixed the ads display and the ads plugin.
Rotating messages now display in the chat with the correct colour, not TSAY
    • Added two new dustbowl-style maps: cp_corporation_b1 and cp_dogblu_b3
They went over well, and will remain on the server
    • Added a new ctf map to the server: ctf_convoy_v2
It was generally accepted fairly well. It will remain on, at least for now
    • Fixed the mapchooser plugin to now include custom maps on the server
Nominations still do not work with mapchooser, just rockthevote
    • A bunch of other crap and tinkering I don't even REMEMBER
Causing me to be AFK a ton tonight, which sucked
    March 2nd, 2008
    • Employed a new plugin so we show up on the Internet tab.
Valve attempted to force servers with sv_alltalk, etc into the "custom" tab. This is what has been losing us a decent amount of traffic lately
    • Installed a new plugin to allow for rotating messages, which include:
      • You can say 'motd' to see our rules
      • Visit our forums at http://lions.dongues.net!
      • Make sure to 'nominate' a map when you RTV
      • A nextmap vote will occur when there is 1 round left on a map
    February 28th, 2008
    • Updated both servers (Main & Scrim) to newest TF2 Build (3400)
    • Updated both servers (Main & Scrim) to newest SourceMod build for compatibility and features (v1.0.0.1906)
    • Updated both servers (Main & Scrim) to newest MetaMod Source build for compatibility and features (v1.6.0.660)
    February 19th, 2008

    IRC Connection Guide [up:6/10/10]

Postby Atreus on Wed Jun 17, 2009 8:03 pm

    IRC Information
    • Server: irc.synirc.net
    • Channel: #tld
    If you register your nick:
    • Admins get Ops
    • Lions and special regulars get Voice
    To register your nick:
    • /msg nickserv register PASSWORD YOUR@EMAIL.COM
    • Confirm using the instructions from the email

    IRC Connection Guides

    mIRC Connection Guide
    Step 1: Initial mirc configuration.
Firstly, get mIRC - http://www.mirc.com/ . Then, At the very least, setup your display name at the popup. Get stuff displaying how you'd like. The image below shows some of the more basic options you'll want.I'd help/explain further, but its really about preference. if you have any specific questions about it, I'd be glad to answer them.
    Image

    Step 2: Highlighting
After you're finished the initial configuration, we're going to setup Highlighting. What's highlighting you ask? It sets it up so that if someone says a keyword of your choice (primarily, your aliases) mIRC will notify you! This is how most people know when their name is said and their attention is required Follow these steps:
    1. type "/abook -h" and press enter. A new window will open
    2. Check "Enable Highlight" and click "Add"
    3. In the first field, type in anything you want to be highlighted for. For example, I have "Atroos, Atreus, !admin" in mine
    4. The rest of the options are up to you. Here is how mine looks:
      Image

    Step 3: Nickserv Registration
Almost done! Before we setup mIRC to autojoin and stuff, we need to register with NickServ, which is basically the account registrar on the irc network. To do this, do the following (without quotes, of course!)
    1. type "/server irc.synirc.net" and press enter. mIRC will connect
    2. type "/msg nickserv register YOURPASSWORD YOUREMAIL@EMAIL.COM" and press enter, where they are your desired password and email. Check your email, and enter the auth code to confirm your account

Step 4: Autojoining and stuff. Making it easy!
Lastly, we want to setup mirc to automatically join the TLD server and such. Here's the easiest way...
    1. Press "alt+r" to bring up the scripts window.
    2. Go to the "remotes" tab
    3. Paste in the following, where "YOURPASSWORD" is the password you registered for nickserv with. I have purposely included commented out (disabled, using a semicolon at the start of the line) second entry so that if you want to join other servers you can know how to do it with this script.
      Code: Select all
      ON *:START: {
        server irc.synirc.net
      ; server -m irc.anotherserver.net
      }

      ON *:CONNECT: {
        if (synirc.net isin $server) {
          nickserv identify YOURPASSWORD
          join #tld
        }

      ;  if (anotherserver isin $server) {
      ;    nickserv identify YOURPASSWORD
      ;    join #otherchannel
      ;  }
      }
    4. Click OK, and restart mirc.
    5. Bam. It should auto-connect and auto-join the server, as well as auto-log you in.

    Step 5: Optional Extras
Note: For those who are security conscious, you can indeed connect to synIRC using SSL. Here is how to do so:
    1. Download this RAR I uploaded containing the required SSL Plugin files
    2. Extract it to wherever you installed mIRC to (default: c:\program files\mirc\)
    3. Press "alt+r" to bring up the scripts window again
    4. Change the line "server irc.synirc.net" to "server irc.synirc.net +7001", which specifies to use SSL.
    5. Restart mIRC. Blammo, you're done!

Note 2: If you like addons and feel like doing some extra configuration, you may also want to grab http://www.kristshell.net/pnp/ . Perhaps, try out mIRC by itself and if you find yourself having features you still desire, pnp will help that.

    Colloquy Connection Guide
    Colloquy Configuration Guide
    http://colloquy.info/
Colloquy is a very well designed irc client for OS X that can be completely configured using a GUI and does not require scripting to automate the connection process. This is beneficial because most people can figure out how to configure it exactly to their liking easily without having to learn a programing syntax.

    Step 1: Setting up Colloquy
    • Download + install the latest version of Colloquy - http://colloquy.info/downloads/colloquy-latest.zip

    • This is the first screen you see when you start the program. Set your nickname (the name that is displayed) and enter the server you want to connect to. For this guide, we will be using "irc.synirc.net". Also check "Remember this connection"
    Image

    • Go ahead and expand the details pane. Since you should always use SSL when you have a choice, go ahead and enter 7001 into the chat server port and check SSL. Feel free to add whatever real name you wish to use and click the little plus next to join rooms and add "#tld". This is the list of rooms you will automatically enter when you connect to the server. Put your server username into the username box. I usually just match my Username and Nickname. Go ahead and click connect.
    Image

    • Congrats! You are connected to the irc server and hanging out in #tld. Notice how your Nickname is automatically highlighted as you are mentioned.
    Image

    Step 2: Nickserv Registration
    • Go back to the connection window (Command + 1), highlight irc.synirc.net and click the Console button. Switch over to the console window and perform the following actions:
Atreus wrote:We need to register with NickServ, which is basically the account registrar on the irc network. To do this, do the following (without quotes, of course!)
    1. type "/msg nickserv register YOURPASSWORD YOUREMAIL@EMAIL.COM" and press enter, where they are your desired password and email. Check your email, and enter the auth code to confirm your account

    Image
    The Connections window

    • Now go back to the Connections window and check the check box (in the * column) next to the servers you want to automatically connect to on the launch of the program.

    • Click the info button to bring up the info inspector. Enter your newly created nickserv password into the password prompt just under your Nickname. Also set an alt nickname just in case you login twice so the server wont yell at you. You can also add commands to be performed upon connection and set weather or not the console is opened on connection. Connection commands are separated by new lines.
    Image Image

    Step 3: Interface and Highligting
The default window setup is bulky (but functional). I like to go to preferences->Interface and change "Window Interface" to Tabbed window. While there is automatic nickname highlighting, you can add more highlight words in the preferences->Alearts pane (words separated by space).
    Image
    Tabbed Window Interface

    Step 4: Themes
Your using a mac so why not make irc look like a pimp. Go to the extras page and browse around for any extras that look appealing. I recommend two themes that are totally functional and good looking.
    • Frugal
    • Simplicity
Changing the theme using the button in the chat window tool bar will set the theme specific to that #chatroom. Global appearance settings are made in the Preferences pane.

    Conclusion
Most of the preferences are self explanatory. Adding more servers follows the exact same process and is extremely simple. Go for it!

    Other IRC Client Connection Guides
I only use mIRC on my PC, so I can't easily write other connection guides. If anyone wants to write guides for those using other clients, those on OSX, Linux, etc, please let me know and I will add it in :)

Excellent maps! Borax was a lot of fun, even though I had to duck out early last night. Glacier has been consistently a good time (scoot scoot), and Pool Day is a great out-of-the-box arena map with a very interesting and hectic play style. Yum :D

Furnace is also a good map too. Loving the new gravelpit style maps. Great for scoot scoot practice.

:D Yay. Though I am thinking that nomination reminder c_say is pretty annoying, especially since it shows up in the middle of gameplay (not during setup or anything) and it obscures vision. Perhaps an h_say instead?

    Sweet new look!!

That's fucking excellent. I expect we'll get lots more listeners now :) [p.s. I have been wanting to do a set but I don't have time during the week :( hopefully next weekend, out of town this weekend :c ]

Apparently it's an old HL2 map that some people like to play for nostalgic value?

But as a map it is poorly designed. I find the wide open space around the center point to be ridiculous. It perpetually empties the server, to a degree no other map matches. It suffers from clusterfuck in the outside 2 points. It's Well/Granary style, as seeing how those usually fall into stalemates, the badness of the map only exacerbates the stalemate shittiness (not that I dislike Well/Granary, but that's how it is).

:D Yay. Though I am thinking that nomination reminder c_say is pretty annoying, especially since it shows up in the middle of gameplay (not during setup or anything) and it obscures vision. Perhaps an h_say instead?

Hm. You're the first to file a complaint on it. Is the bit of white text once every 30m that big a deal(actually asking) ? If it was often, I'd agree, but I didn't think something that rarely would be a big deal. Anything not in people's faces seems to get entirely ignored

It does seem a bit... disharmonized? when compared with the other advertisement reminders.
On the one hand, it seems a little distracting and stands out when it's the only 'big white text in the middle of the screen' reminder.
However, having a 'nominate' reminder is consistently useful (since nominations are needed every map); unlike the !scramble reminder for example, which people only need to be reminded about if teams are stacked etc.

Suggestions: If there's a way to have the nomination reminder consistently show up at the same time every map (such as 5 minutes or 1 round before a map vote), or during setup time as VMDX suggested, that would be great. Otherwise, I think it's a little too distracting to me if I'm actually playing - maybe tone it down a little, but still have it more noticable from the standard advertisement reminders? Either use an h_say (if that's the one which is centered but towards the bottom of the screen), or make it like the 'normal' reminders but more frequent than a single 'normal' reminder.

Interestingly enough, despite being "relatively" in your face, people still forget to nominate a ton. I had to cancel 2 votes today due to 0 noms :|

Also, for when I have enough to update the main post:

--Did a major revamp to the SourceBans plugin, fixing various issues, including it not properly accepting the ban reason if done via command line (sm_ban // /ban // !ban) and not showing the ban-ee the reason for their ban. Both work now. Took a while to make it not fuck up, though

Yes. I think the timing of it is the problem. Who is going to stop dead in the tracks mid-game, mid-life, mid-heated-fight to nominate something? For me, it is definitely more of an annoyance than a legitimate reminder... the thought that goes through my head when I see it more often is "fuck I hope that goes away soon so I can see that person I'm trying to hit" instead of "oh shit let me nominate something."

I've observed that same problem among other players and I think if we could get it to run at setup, that would be best.

Is there a way to do it when someone dies? Probably not, I guess, but I usually nominate when I have to wait 14 seconds to respawn.

Usually people nominate at the beginning of maps, but if no one nominates and someone is spamming "111111111111111" then you might as well let the vote go on.

I'm with VMDX, the white text gets in the way of killing people. :v

I tend to nominate when I think of a map I haven't played in a while that I like. I don't bother nominating unless I've got something in mind.

I'd like to see a screenshot of it from your guys' machines. For me, it's really not that in the way.

Also, do you guys really not have the attention span to see it say "nominate a map", NOT do it while fighting, and then do it when you die...?

(That's not to say I won't look into a way to make it display at setup)

But there are nice maps like Furnace and Glacier that are just new and need exposure. Pubbies can be fickle sometimes, maybe they are just playing to play and not for the sense of community regulars and clan members have, so a map they don't really really like will shut them off, as well as maybe having to download a new map. I don't think any of the maps we have on the server now "reliably" clear out a group of 50+% Lions and regulars :)

    And Casbah, which is fun for small groups! But no fun for 24 people ;_;

Uh, no matter what, there are always going to be maps that are inappropriate for that time. Always.

A map that people really want to play primetime or late at night will often time be inappropriate for the other.

That's the reason for nominations: so people can choose shit they want to play and people can vote for it. When they don't, random maps pop up. Sometimes, the resulting list winds up OK. Sometimes, it's shit.

If someone highly recommended a map, I'd vote for it. Otherwise, I go for the familiar option.

I'll try to get a screenshot of the map notification. When you're aiming rockets, the top-middle of the screen is pretty important.

Please. Please stop asking me about class immunity on the scramble plugin. It's being worked on. Engi immunity is currently mostly working. I am testing each new build as it comes out. Asking doesn't make it go faster.

If they only have 10 seconds left to a full charge... they should have more that 55%?

I dont know what you are getting at here.

TF2 Wiki wrote:With the increased charge rate, it takes a total of 40 seconds to fully charge the Medigun Ubercharge meter. When charging at a normal rate, this takes 80 seconds.

With the Kritzkrieg, filling the Ubercharge meter takes 30 seconds (25% faster) with the increased charge rate. With a normal rate, this takes 60 seconds (twice as long).

so either way, if they are only 10 seconds away, I'm pretty sure they should be over 55%.

If it's happening early enough in a round that a medic doesn't have 55% and they are indeed switched, then chances are they'll have more than enough time to re-charge. As it is, now with the scramble-delay-if-its-close-enough-to-the-end-of-the-round (90s or less), setup time scrambles are unlikely.

I'm still hoping for a setup time recharge if a scramble happens

Spent a ridiculous amount of time coding new things into the #tld quotebot, including the super commonly requested feature of "return a random quote with that keyword in it, not just the first". I have also moved all quote capabilities over to a new iteration of LionBot. I do not say new and improved because he has none of his old functionality (that plugin is still broken). Just quotes.

Coming soon as well will be a command to list all quotes for a term, though I'm not sure if I should have it output the quotes to a person via notify or do it to the channel in chunks of, say, 10, like sourcemod. I'm thinking the former. Learned a lot about mirc scripting:)

I think the remaining random server crashes we were getting were caused by the RCON Banpenalty stuff mentioned at http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=93934 . I have implemented the plugin, and we'll see what happens.

I didn't even think about it beforehand because I figured valve had fixed it long ago

Edit: Also finally got around to installing Kigen's Anti-Cheat plugin. It can't catch everything, mind you, but it should help with any hackers for when admins arent on.

Both of these should make absolutely no different on your server experience. If you notice odd crap happening, something is wrong and you should let me know :v

New BBCode added as a way to easily compact text a user may not want to see, yet make it easily available. It is also similar to the feature Spartacus asked for regarding alternative spoilers.

So, instead of being productive, I decided to write us a "Mega Man 2 by The Adventures of Duane and BrandO" lyricbot for IRC :xd:

    Instructions:
[MM2] Description: Lyric Bot for "Mega Man 2 by The Adventures Of Duane And BrandO"
    [MM2] Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUEO9Mfmn4M
    [MM2] Lyrics: http://www.duane-and-brando.com/2009/05 ... yrics.html
[MM2] Usage: "!mm2 TEXT HERE" will display the line after yours. "!mm2 -s TEXT HERE" will search for the line you enter

That dialogue can be shown using !mm2 -h

Enjoy, dingos. I know I will.

That is the greatest thing since whatever the greatest thing was after sliced bread. :vkeke:
<Mizu> ._. paper cut is my #1 supplier of yaoi
<Mizu> he knows how much I need.

Amidst the sentries, I heard a sound
It was a Lion! My heart did pound
With incessant toots, and dongues of steel
A certain death, what pain I'd feel.
